Kiran is a recognized battery energy storage expert in the US and global markets, and brings 18-years of experience in the energy industry, with specific experience in battery energy storage leadership. Prior to joining BrightNight, Kiran led energy storage strategy and market applications for AES and Fluence.  His prior work has included the identification of new commercial models to enable go-to-market strategy for key markets and implementing regulatory and policy solutions that create access to key customer segments. Most notably at Fluence, Kiran evangelized the “storage as transmission” idea  and created the pathway to create a product based on this application/customer segment.  Kiran will be bringing all of this broad-based technical and power sector knowledge into his role at BrightNight providing a good commercial bridge for technology and engineering

Kiran is a frequent speaker at industry conferences on policy issues that impact energy storage development and has testified multiple times at the U.S. Congress (House and Senate) and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) on various subjects, including wholesale market reforms and multiple use cases for energy storage.  Kiran currently serves on the Board of Directors of the American Clean Power Association (ACP) and has previously served as the Chair of the Board of Directors for the US Energy Storage Association (ESA).

Earlier in his career, Kiran worked as a Senior Manager at ICF International, advising private sector clients on wholesale power market and transmission issues. He holds an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Madras, India.  Kiran lives in Northern Virginia with his wife and two daughters.
