Deschutes Solar and Storage Project
At the heart of the Deschutes Solar and Storage Project is the convergence of public safety, community partnership, and the protection of our natural resources.
The Deschutes Solar and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Project will address regional power needs in the Pacific Northwest, delivering reliable energy to approximately 850,000 homes.
Why this Site?
The project is located in south Wasco County, Oregon, situated about six miles southwest of Maupin. BrightNight has worked with landowners in Wasco County for more than two years to site this project in an intentional way that minimizes impacts to surrounding properties.
- Sited on lower quality farmland.
- This site does not require any significant unplanned transmission lines to be built.
- The site has strong landowner support, contiguous parcels, and is largely devoid of sensitive species.
Beyond clean energy, the Deschutes Project will bring significant economic value through job creation, local tax revenues, and property tax benefits—all without large-scale land buyouts or permanent infrastructure.

BrightNight in Wasco County
Our company respects the history of this region and is eager to help tribal leaders, farmers, and the public write its next chapter. Throughout our development process, we dedicate time and resources to understanding local needs and the community’s vision for the future. To achieve this, we incorporate community feedback during every phase of the development process by:
- Building meaningful and ongoing partnerships with governments, nonprofits, businesses and community leaders
- Collecting project feedback through community meetings and a project website, and incorporating it into the project’s final design
- Providing ongoing opportunities and updates to the community over the course of our work
- Investing in community priorities around agricultural and wildlife preservation, among other initiatives
We bring more than renewable power to the communities we serve. By talking with local leaders, non-profit organizations, business owners, and landowners, we learn about local needs and community goals. These can include the need for more job training opportunities, rebuilding infrastructures to maintain community needs, or facilitating the community’s commitment to utilizing the highest and best use of non-farmable private land. We then convert this information into action and find ways to serve the community as a local partner. Whatever the need, BrightNight leverages its powerful team of experts to develop power and partnership.
